From Via Aldobrandeschi, in the centre of Pitigliano, we go downhill as far as the Gate of Sovana, which we cross leaving the village behind us. We arrive at the beginning of two roads dug out from the tuff: we decide to go right along Via Cava di Poggio Cani. We continue for a few meters along the provincial highway, passing the bridge, and on the left we see Via Cava dell’Annunziata which we follow, climbing into the woods to arrive at a small dirt track, where we bear right; we meet, one after the other, two signs for a holiday farm, and we follow them. At the end of the road, a turn-off towards the left indicates the Via Cava di Pian dei Conati. We cross the plateau with the same name where we meet a cross-roads and we turn left. Here we go on until we reach the fire break which winds along in the shade of the woods: first downhill until we cross a river, then climbing up to a grassy area. We cross a bridge over a second river and continue, following the signs marking the route. We continue uphill where we find some old walls which we cross through a little gate. The last section leads onto a road where, turning left, we come to an asphalted road. We go downhill towards the sports field and climb again as far as the archaeological area. We have reached Rocca Aldobrandesca, at the gates of Sovana, which we can visit. We can return along the same route or we can take public transport.
