From Piazza Palestro to Colonnata, following the steps that climb among the houses, we arrive at a fountain where we turn off for Cima d’Uomo, shortly arriving at the village. Here, we come to a rather difficult section, first over rocks and then through a pine forest. After the climb we take a path we follow on the right soon afterwards arriving at an uphill detour. The effort is rewarded by the view we have of the Maggiore mountains as soon as we look out onto the impressive steep wall. We walk diagonally along the side of the rise and when we reach the southern slope of the wall we climb up to reach the little peak. Now we can see the Cima d’Uomo; from here, heading towards Maggiore, we descend, arriving beneath the wall of the mountain where a path starts on the right entering a small valley. We meet a fountain and arrive in the shade of trees. Here we come to the village of Vergheto, once inhabited by quarrymen but now almost completely abandoned. We come to path 38 which we follow to cross the village, keeping to the right at the next junction. Now we start our descent through chestnut woods, along hairpin bends leading to a section with some stone steps. We start another downhill path and soon arrive at a little bridge that brings us to the village of Colonnata.
