Rifugio (Mountain Refuge)
Carrara - Campo Cecina
Descrizione: Skirting to the left of the Carrara Refuge we plunge into a gently sloping beech forest until we come to an obvious detour on the right. We turn left immediately and following signpost 183 we cut across the hill half-way up, with its alternating woods and short stretches in the open, until we reach a splendid natural viewpoint overlooking the impressive walls of Pizzo d’Uccello and the Sagro. We descend, skirting a small rise which we keep to our left. We now head for the side nearest the sea for a short stretch passing close to a deep natural well and, still following the path, we arrive at Foce Pozzi; from here we go on to the mouth of the Cardeto, following signpost 174. During the journey, we see before us the isolated conical peak of the Torre di Monzone.
As soon as the Tower appears, a turn-off  (signpost  171 and 40), invites us to climb up into the woods again. The path divides and we choose the one that climbs more steeply on the left. Just a few meters later we pass a shoulder from where we can see the slope that was hidden until now.
We go on along the main, undulating path and arrive at a hairpin bend to the left, near another steep valley. Our path passes between two houses and comes out on a tilled hillside. We climb diagonally and arrive at the end of the square where we find some marble sculptures. We cross the square to return to our point of departure.
