Descrizione: From Pontremoli, an ancient trading and historical village that was one of the stops along the Via Francigena (the Frankish Route), we cross the Lunigiana, an area of castles and old villages, where we visit Filetto and Bagnone, the most beautiful surprises of our first day. Through enormous chestnut forests and views over the Magra Valley, we approach the Apuan Alps, whose slopes we venture onto during the second leg, through Carrara and Massa to end the route at Seravezza, in the heart of the marble district. The third leg calls at Pietrasanta, called “little Athens” because of its unusual concentration of artists that have frequented it for centuries. It then passes Sant’Anna di Stazzema, theatre of one of the most brutal Nazi-Fascist massacres, and descends towards Camaiore, another stop pointed out by Bishop Sigerico during his pilgrimage along the Francigena. After winding around Lake Massaciuccoli, so well-loved by Puccini, we enter the Serchio Valley, and end the day at the spa resort of San Giuliano.

From Pontremoli station we take the state highway of the Cisa towards La Spezia; at the first bridge we turn right crossing the river Magra and then immediately left. At the traffic lights at Villafranca we continue towards Filetto (Km 13.3), an attractive fortified village that we cross entering the walls and continuing until we reach the characteristic village of Bagnone. We head towards Licciana Nardi, and after a steep climb we travel along a section that is all ups and downs, passing alongside the Sanctuary of Panicale (Km 29.1) and descend towards Licciana Nardi. Here we take the road on the left for Bastia, climbing up towards Agnino (Km 39.7) and descend towards the Valley of the river Aulella. At the bottom of the hill we turn right for  Aulla and after 800 m when we arrive at a little bridge, we turn left; when we reach the Cerreto state highway we follow it towards the right, and after 700 m we leave it on the left in the direction of  Casola. At Gragnola we turn right towards Equi Terme, and at the level crossing at Monzone we turn right and follow the signs for Equi Terme, where we finish the leg in front of the tourist office, at the foot of the climb which leads, through the village, to the caves and the Archaeological Park.
