The area where we find the towns of Massa and Carrara is one of the
most suggestive in the whole of Tuscany. Trapped between the sea and
harsh mountains, it has a heterogeneous range of wonderful scenery.
From the steep Apuan Alps that almost arrive at an altitude of two
thousand meters, one of the ideal destinations for trekking and in
which we still find the marble quarries that provided the precious
materials for masterpieces, to the beaches of very fine sand along the
Tyrrhenian coast. To all of this we must add the Lunigiana, an area
enclosed within the Apennines, the Apuan Alps and the sea, very rich in
history and traditions.
The
itineraries presented for this district are part of a collection that
the magazine “Trekking” together with the APT (Provincial Tourist
Authority) of the Tuscan Coast, has dedicated to the most beautiful
trekking routes in this area. A series of itineraries that will help
you discover lovely places and will introduce you to a district that
has great environmental and cultural appeal.
